Technology & Combat Characteristics
The AMS-129 Geara Zulu is the mainstay mobile suit of the Neo Zeon remnants known as the "Sleeves." Originally developed by Anaheim Electronics as the successor to the AMS-119 Geara Doga, it was intended to serve as the next-generation frontline unit for Char’s Neo Zeon army during preparations for what was expected to be a prolonged Second Neo Zeon War. However, the conflict ended before full-scale mass production could begin, and the project was subsequently shelved.
Years later, with the rise of The Sleeves and their rebellion against the Earth Federation, the need for a symbolic mobile suit representing the revival of Zeon prompted the reactivation of the Geara Zulu project. Although production resumed with updated specifications, limitations in The Sleeves’ financial resources, combined with shortcomings in the mobile suit’s overall performance, meant that the original ambitious mass production plan was never realized. In essence, the Geara Zulu is a modernized version of the Geara Doga. While the Geara Zulu doesn't break new ground in terms of design philosophy, it benefits from technological advancements made since the Geara Doga’s development, along with thoughtful revisions for improved productivity, maintainability, and modularity.
Generally, the standard armaments of the Geara Zulu includes a beam machine gun and beam hawk, although there is a wide range of weapons that can be equipped depending on the mission profile, and this shows the suit's versatility. The Geara Zulu can have a weapon mount with several latches placed on the back of its waist to carry hand grenades and the beam hawk. Besides weapon and equipment variations, there is also a commander version with additional blade antenna on the head, a Royal Guard version and an aquatic version.
History
Around 60 AMS-129 Geara Zulus were operated by the Sleeves' outbound fleets, leaving the defense of their stronghold Palau to older MS like the AMX-003 Gaza-C and AMX-006 Gaza-D, as well as the AMS-119 Geara Doga. A small number of Geara Zulus were also operated by the Republic of Zeon, but these units were disguised as being affiliated with the Sleeves to conceal their true identity.
