Technology & Combat Characteristics
The F70 Cannon Gundam is a prototype support mobile suit developed as part of the SNRI's Formula project with the aim of mass-producing the F90S Gundam F90 Support Type. This high performance machine adopts the universal standard for weapons and can use many of the Earth Federation Forces' weapons like the RGM-109 Heavygun's beam rifle and beam saber. Its main weapon, the triple machine cannons, are mounted on the shoulder hardpoints and can be replaced with a beam cannon or a 150mm high-velocity cannon that fires physical projectiles. These weapons on the shoulder hardpoints can be purged when needed, such as during close combat. The mobile suit could also the F90 Gundam F90's Mission Packs. Design changes led to the creation of the mass production type F71 G-Cannon, with Anaheim Electronics producing the new machine. As a result, the Cannon Gundam is also known as "Prototype G-Cannon". The Cannon Gundam was completed in U.C. 0112, but its development was confidential within SNRI, and its existence was announced only after the deployment of the G-Cannon.
History
The F70 Cannon Gundam debuted in U.C 0112, piloted by Job John for field testing in SNRI headquarters' training grounds in Frontier 1. In U.C. 115, a Cannon Gundam piloted by Hajime Tasker was assigned to the EFSF's Fastest Formula Corps stationed on the Space Ark-class ship, Fairlady, for further testing and it operated alongside the F89 Gundam F89, F90 Gundam F90 Unit 2, as well as several RGM-109 Heavyguns and F71 G-Cannons. During the siege of Zeon Remnants' Insel asteroid base, Hajime's Cannon Gundam was ambushed by a replica of NZ-000 Queen Mansa, but was saved by the F90NG Gundam F90 NG Type. The team was later sent on a mission to wipe out space pirates, but they unexpectedly encountered the MSA-120 Draig. During the battle, the Draig stabbed the cockpit of Hajime's Cannon Gundam with a beam saber, killing Hajime instantly.
