Technology & Combat Characteristics
A recreation of the RX-78-2 Gundam as a trial mobile suit. It was built using roughly 52% of the original mobile suit, hence the name "Half Gundam". Any missing parts were taken from modern mobile suits, and was optimized to be as close as possible to the original RX-78's performance. While it lacked the Core Block System, it still retained the Magnet Coating upgrade. The Half Gundam was armed with the standard loadout, except it used the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II's beam rifle.
History
The Half Gundam was created by the Titans to coincide with the development of the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II. Its purpose was to prove that the Mk-II, even in the hands of an novice pilot, can surpass an ace piloting the RX-78-2 Gundam. Despite this, Kan Woo and the Half Gundam would repeatedly defeat the Gundam Mk-II and its pilot Edmund Edgar Smith in multiple mock battles, delaying the Mk-II's development. However, the Titans conducted one last mock battle in space with real weaponry, turning it into a battle to the death. Despite their differences, Woo grew fond of Edmund and held back from shooting him at the last second. This allowed the Mk-II to shoot down the Half Gundam, killing Woo but sparing Edmund's life. The destruction of the Half Gundam would lead to the continued production of the Gundam Mk-II.
