Technology & Combat Characteristics
An experimental variant of the Zaku II equipped with a prototype propellant tank system developed under the leadership of Professor Weinz for the purpose of extending the mobile suit's movement range in space. It was calculated that with this system, which consisted of two propellant tanks mounted on the chest, and another four mounted on the back via a new, special backpack, the mobile suit's cruising range was about six times that of a normal Zaku II. However, in exchange, its mobility deteriorated considerably, and the weight imbalance of the propellant tanks caused by fuel consumption resulted in fluttering during high-speed flight.
History
During its high-speed test run in space, this machine managed to achieve a movement range 500% farther than a regular Zaku II. However, towards the end of the run, extreme vibrations led to ruptures in the base of the propellant tanks and caused them to explode, destroying the mobile suit and killing its pilot.
