Technology & Combat Characteristics
Competition in Mobile Suit development intensified during the founding war for Cosmo Babylonia. AE Company, which had fallen behind SNRI, planned to develop a unit with performance that surpassed the Formula Project by reorganizing the technology accumulated over their history. Among them, the MST-99 Type 99 was submitted to the company's internal competition. The unit's concept was to update the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki for the U.C. 0120s, which was entrusted with the wish during the Gryps Conflict to be a "MS that can be used for 100 years."
A feature of MST-99 is that it can be converted into this machine, the MST-99A Type 99 Assault, by contorting the legs using the movable frame structure and adding a booster unit. It is armed with a 70mm Assault Gatling and the backpack's Hardpoints are equipped with weapon containers containing various missile weapons. The origin of the name is derived from "99" which, in Japanese, means "time and experience that seems to be eternal" and "diversity", it is apparent much the design team was influenced by the MSN-00100.
