Technology & Combat Characteristics
Designed by five scientists and Mike Howard, the OZ-00MS Tallgeese was the first armed mobile suit, and is the common ancestor of both the Gundams (specifically their prototype, the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero) and the mass-produced military mobile suits (most notably the OZ-06MS Leo and its variants). The Tallgeese was a well-rounded unit featuring both long-range and melee weapons, and also has heavy armor coupled with high power “Super Vernier” thruster units.
Unfortunately, its design ignored pilot safety, making the mobile suit impossible to be piloted by normal pilots. In particular, immense g-force strain is placed on the pilot during high-speed movement, with one theory saying the pilot would experience as much as 15 Gs.[1] To solve this problem and reduce production costs, the Tallgeese’s design was simplified to create the Leo. After Zechs defected from OZ, Howard equipped the suit with a large detachable booster unit that allows it to escape the Earth’s atmosphere.
In the EW version, a “Tempest” Heat Lance and Heat Halberd were added to its arsenal, and the suit was eventually upgraded into the OZ-00MS Tallgeese Flugel whereby the “Super Vernier” thruster units were replaced with wing binders for better mobility in space.
History
The OZ-00MS Tallgeese was developed in A.C. 175 by five scientists and Mike Howard, but was abandoned halfway through completion. Even so, it was considered the prototype for all subsequent mobile suits. To reduce cost and resolve the design flaws that made it too dangerous for a normal human to control, the Tallgeese’s design was later simplified into the OZ-06MS Leo, the first mass-produced mobile suit. Subsequently, the Tallgeese was mothballed in the Alliance’s Corsica base.
In A.C. 195, the Tallgeese was acquired by OZ ace pilot Zechs Merquise, who was seeking a way to combat the Gundams that were attacking Alliance bases. The Tallgeese was restored to operating conditions over a few months, and test piloted by OZ officer Otto, who was gravely injured by the mobile suit’s immense thruster output. Despite the risk, Zechs used the Tallgeese to battle the Gundams on several occasions and was more than a match for them.
After Zechs defected from OZ over ideological differences with its leadership, the Tallgeese was fitted with an optional booster unit, allowing him (as Milliardo Peacecraft) to visit the space colonies. Zechs later joined up with Mike Howard aboard the battleship Peacemillion, and began launching independent attacks against OZ’s space forces with the Tallgeese. Tallgeese were later assembled into OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II for use by Treize Khushrenada.
