The Guncannon First Type (Rollout Unit 1) was developed by Dr. Tem Ray at Anaheim Electronics , based on the RTX-65 Guntank Early Type. It was intended to be a humanoid main battle tank, with legs instead of treads for increased mobility in uneven terrain .

At Von Braun, Rollout Unit 1 was on display. Tem Ray saw it towering over him and thought that this was not what his mentor, Torenov Y. Minovsky, meant by "mobile suit". Tem shouted out loud "This isn't it!" .
