Technology & Combat Characteristics
Built off of their mass produced RGM-79 GM's, designers opted to expand the mobile suit's versatility in combat, with long ranged artillery support being one of the designs. To keep modification costs low and maintenance simple, changes to the frame itself were kept very minimal, with the arms being changed out for ones that looked similar to the RX-77 Guncannon. Other changes included extra thrusters on the back of each leg to increase speed and mobility, to offset the extra weight of its main armament. The backpack was equipped with a pair of powerful long ranged cannons with large sensors, and was capable of using the same weapon loadouts as the standard GM, such as the shield. Other additions were a pair of powerful sensor pods on the head, one on each side, to increase its sensor range and accuracy for improved target acquisition.
History
For Operation Star One, the GM Long Range Type had been delivered to the White Base alongside the RGM-79 GM:Close Combat Type. It would be deployed alongside the Guncannons, RX-78-02 Gundam, and GM Close Combat Type, engaging Zeon forces at A Baoa Qu.
