Technology & Combat Characteristics
The Zanny was built by the Earth Federation Forces using parts from captured Zakus as part of its mobile suit development program. Its head, waist and backpack are similar to those of the RGM-79 GM (Thunderbolt Ver.), while the rest of its body is from the MS-06 Zaku II (Thunderbolt Ver.). When used in space, the Zanny could be fitted with the same kind of backpack as the MS-05 Zaku I (Thunderbolt Ver.).
History
Created by the Earth Federation Forces, the Zanny was also provided to the allied South Seas Alliance who deployed it alongside Worker Balls to recover dead and wounded soldiers and their mobile suits from the battlefield. A large number of these units were also used to defend the South Seas Alliance's territory, some of which were equipped with flotation equipment to traverse water. Three units are seen defending a temple from Daryl Lorenz's team who invaded, thinking it might be the Psycho Zaku factory. One unit is destroyed by Billy Hickam in his MSM-04 Acguy. The remaining units were sniped down by Daryl.
Many Zannies later participated in the defense of the Alliance's Taal volcano base against a full-scale assault from the Pegasus-class Spartan and her mobile suit forces trying to stop the launch of the 32 Psycho Zaku Mk-II units into space, but are destroyed in the heated battle. Daryl sorties in one of the Psycho Zaku Mk-IIs and uses Heat Hawks from fallen Zannies to attack the Federation ship.
Billy, having defected to the South Seas Alliance with the rest of Daryl's squad before the battle at the volcano, later sortied in a Zanny to protect Alliance refugee ships heading to the neutral colony of Side 6 from RGM-79N GM Custom (Thunderbolt Ver.) units deployed from a pursuing Federation fleet. Soon after, Zannies were among the mobile suits of the Alliance that took part in Operation Maitreya, Levan Fuu's plan to seize the Solar Ray from the Republic of Zeon in order to destroy Anaheim Electronics.
