Technology & Combat Characteristics
The RX-106E Hi-Zack [Vanargand], also known as the RX-106E Proto Hizack with Flight Unit, was an experimental mobile suit developed by the Oakland Newtype Research Institute under the Titans’ directive. It was based on the RX-106 Prototype Hizack, and outfitted with high-output thrusters and large propellant tanks to enable short-duration aerial maneuvering. However, the intense physical strain required to pilot it meant that it was exclusively intended for Cyber Newtypes.
The Vanargand incorporated a number of technologies originally developed by the Titans, particularly from the RX-121-2A Gundam TR-1 [Advanced Hazel], earning it the nickname "Advanced Hi-Zack." It featured a Hazel-type backpack, as well as head-mounted blade antenna, goggles, and sole boosters. The side and rear skirt armor were removed to reduce weight, replaced with thigh-mounted rear thrusters, and a set of wing-like binders was attached along the spinal frame—design elements that would later be refined and carried over to the RMS-154 Barzam.
History
The first prototype was assigned to Cyber Newtype Rossweisse, and deployed aboard the Titans’ Heavy Fork-class land battleship Nicosia in July, U.C. 0086. As it was designed specifically for ground combat, the unit was returned to the Oakland Resaerch Institute when Rossweisse was reassigned to space.
