Technology & Combat Characteristics
The Gundam TR-6 was developed as the next-generation mainstay mobile suit for the Titans and the Earth Federation Forces. It represents the final and fully realized model of the Titans’ development initiative for their main MS—the culmination of the "TR Plan." Its creation took place during the Gryps Conflict, a period marked by disorganized development efforts in which various MS design bureaus independently pursued incompatible systems. As a result, productivity was disregarded, and many prototype machines with highly specialized and incompatible structures were fielded simultaneously. This chaotic era would later be known as the beginning of the so-called "dinosaur evolution" of mobile suits.
To bring order to this fragmented situation, the "Model Integration Plan" was initiated, aiming to standardize and consolidate all MS into a unified platform. Central to its design is the Universal Replacement System, a modular parts-exchange system that allows the Woundwort to adapt into various configurations by folding its limbs and equipping dedicated reinforcement units. By equipping specific optional parts, the TR-6 can function as a substitute for virtually any other mobile suit in the Federation Forces’ lineup. When configured to replace a given unit, its name reflects this role—for example, adopting the name “Hazel II” when outfitted with parts replacing the TR-1 Hazel. In essence, the Gundam TR-6 [Woundwort] is a general-purpose core unit with the potential to evolve into the ultimate weapon, [Inle], through the combination and rearrangement of reinforcement parts.
As the culmination of the TR series, the TR-6 incorporates the strengths of multiple experimental units tested by the T3 unit. Although there are some exceptions, the system typically uses Woundwort as its core. Through strategic part replacements, it can adapt to virtually any combat environment—space, atmospheric flight, or ground warfare. Another distinctive aspect of the TR-6 system is its cross-compatibility with existing mobile suit parts, making it easier for pilots to adapt to different units. Equipment can be swapped on the fly, allowing the Woundwort to adjust to rapidly changing battlefield conditions and mission requirements.
The TR-6 is essentially a set of components attached to a Drum Frame that serves as the central unit of its transformation mechanisms. The mobile armor form's aerodynamic characteristics are poor, and special option parts are required for atmospheric flight, so this form is mainly for use in space. The rear section of the Woundwort in mobile suit (MS) form—which becomes the nose in mobile armor (MA) form—is equipped with a Boost Pod, an upgraded version of the movable booster pod used on the Hazel, and it includes coolant gas emitters that allow the TR-6 to perform atmospheric entry. This enhanced pod features a built-in generator. In MS form, the thighs are noticeably enlarged to accommodate these internal generators. Aside from this, the Woundwort’s overall frame remains slender, especially when compared to most mobile suits of its class, with only landing skids at the ankles.
This boost pod can be replaced by other types, including an EWAC radome and a "double shield" type similar to the multi-connector pod of the [[RX-121-2A Gundam TR-1 [Advanced Hazel]|RX-121-2A Gundam TR-1 [Advanced Hazel]]]. This double shield version lacks coolant gas emitters, but it includes a mega particle cannon and two shield latches that can hold composite shield boosters.
History
In the photo-novel and novel adaptation, the events unfold in January U.C. 0088, during the final stages of the Gryps Conflict. A prototype unit, the Gundam TR-6 [Woundwort], is stationed aboard the Titans Test Team (T3) Unit’s mothership, Aswan, in its Kehaar II form.
By February, Lieutenant Eliard Hunter is officially assigned as the unit’s test pilot, undergoing simulator training. That same month, during the final battle surrounding the Colony Laser Gryps 2, the Aswan receives direct orders from Titans headquarters to deploy the Woundwort into combat. However, with the war's outcome all but decided, any further fighting would only result in meaningless losses. The fear is that deploying a “Gundam” unit could prolong the conflict by reigniting the Titans' morale. Recognizing this, Aswans commanding officer, Colonel Otto Pedersen, gives Eliard a different order: sortie in the Woundwort and destroy it without engaging in combat.
Eliard attempts to take on the AEUG mobile suit squad single-handedly and intercept the Colony Laser, but he fails to make it in time. The laser is fired, annihilating much of the Titans’ rear fleet. Determined to ensure his allies can retreat, Eliard destroys several enemy mobile suits and ships to cover the withdrawal of surviving Titans forces. With his mission complete, he heads to a shoal zone to fulfill his original orders—to abandon and destroy the Woundwort. Meanwhile, Carl’s Hazel Owsla, equipped with the Fiver II unit, is deployed just as in the photo-novel version. However, when it comes to recover Eliard, the machine is only outfitted with the Bigwig Cannon II and the Hrududu II.
At the time, Mars was in a state of conflict between Zeon Mars, a Zeon remnant faction affiliated with the late Kycilia Zabi, which effectively controlled the planet, and ReZeon, a Zeon remnant organization affiliated with the late Gihren Zabi on Mars, led by Omega Zabi. Tristan's faction joined ReZeon and participated in the ReZeon Founding War against Zeon Mars. The Titans remnants' mobile weapons, including the RX-124 Gundam TR-6, which they brought with them, were deployed to the front lines along with Alicia Zabi and Omega, who claimed to be the successors of the Zabi family.. Even after the establishment of the ReZeon nation, the Gundam TR-6 continued to serve as a core combat unit. It was primarily used as the personal machine of the Alice Guard, an elite unit composed of Alicia, who became its leader, and her sisters, all of whom were clone Cyber Newtypes. Thanks to its performance in the Founding War, the Black Hares' jet-black Gundam became beloved by the people of ReZeon as a symbol of liberation from Zeon Mars and of their victory. It eventually became firmly established as the Royal Guard’s dedicated mobile suit.
Following this, ReZeon confiscated all the weapons brought by the Titans remnants—including the TR-6 variants—and began mass production in industrial plants on Mars. By U.C. 0089, one unit (in Queenly form) was stationed at Phobos Spaceport, and two Kehaar II units were deployed at ground bases. By U.C. 0091, the number of Kehaar IIs at ground installations had increased to six (one of which was later refitted into a Barzam II), and the Haze’n-thley II had been upgraded into the ARZ-125 Re-Haze, Alicia’s personal machine. Meanwhile, the Fiver II—referred to in the story as Inle—was reported to be under construction in a secret underground glacier base on Mars. Parts were being manufactured at the industrial plant, with the unit’s completion drawing near.
