Technology & Combat Characteristics
Excavated from the Moon's Mountain Cycle, the Concept-X 6-1-2 Turn X is the "brother" unit of the System-∀99 ∀ Gundam. The number in its model code, "6-1-2," stands for "Project-6, Division-1, Block-2." As its model number suggests, it appears to have undergone considerable modifications. It is also said that, during restoration, genuine parts from the original machine could not be obtained, resulting in an irregular, asymmetrical form, which is evident in its arms and torso. Furthermore, the Turn X is known to be able to collect an individual's biological reaction data such as Psycho waves. However, whether the Moonlight Butterfly was part of the Turn X's original functions or was later acquired from the ∀ remains unclear. This devastating ability was responsible for the destruction of Earth's civilization in the ancient past.
History
The Turn X originated from beyond the solar system, created by humans who ventured into outer space in search of a new frontier in the distant past. The "X" in its name means "an object turned from its path by the tenth planet (Planet X)" and it is believed to have drifted to the Earth sphere for unknown reasons. It was originally made to be piloted by individuals once known as Newtypes, and therefore its full power cannot be realized in the Earth sphere of ∀ Gundam where Newtypes no longer exist. The unusual shape of its body resulted from countless repairs and modifications in the past, often using parts salvaged from other units as makeshift measures, due to the unavailability of original components during those times. In many cases, those parts were themselves excavated relics, and as a result, the original form of the Turn X is now unclear.
Although there was no invasion from outer space, the recurring conflicts in the Earth sphere led to a war of attrition. This culminated in a final battle between two factions: the Earthlings, who possessed the ∀, believed that civilization should be reset and rebuilt, while the Moonrace, with their Turn X, sought to resolve all conflicts with the power of technology. In the climactic stage of the battle known as the “Final War” which involved all of humanity, both Turn-types were deployed. The Turn X was defeated in this decisive conflict, and Earth's civilization was destroyed by the ∀. The X-shaped mark on the Turn X's chest was the damage it sustained at that time which is not repairable by any means. In the aftermath of the war, the Earth's surface was covered by a new layer of topsoil and the Moonrace were forced to retreat from Earth. Both Turn-types were then buried in the Mountain Cycles created at their respective final destinations.
In C.C. 2345, amidst the ongoing conflict between Earthlings and the Moonrace, the political landscape on the Moon underwent significant changes. An alliance formed between Agrippa Maintainer and Gym Ghingham, aiming to seize power from Queen Dianna Soriel. During this time, Gym initiated research on the Dark History, and commenced excavations on the lunar Mountain Cycle. These excavations uncovered several mobile suits such as the Turn X, G-M1F Bandits (used by Merrybell Gadget), G-838 Mahiroos, J-2126 Muttowoooos, and G-M2F Zssans. After its excavation, the Turn X was analyzed and overhauled by Gym. However, due to the absence of large-scale warfare, it remained sealed for a long time. Eventually, Gym forcibly activated the Turn X, consuming nearly all of the energy of the lunar capital Genganam, and causing a city-wide blackout. Gym then piloted the Turn X to confront Loran Cehack in the ∀, as Dianna broadcast the Winter Palace's archives of the Dark History across the Moon, revealing that the ∀ had destroyed Earth's previous civilization using the Moonlight Butterfly. In their subsequent encounter on the Moon, the Turn X used its All-Range Attack to paralyze the ∀. This allowed the Ghingham Fleet to capture the ∀, and Loran escaped in the Core Fighter.
Gym used the Turn X throughout the final stages of the Earthling–Moonrace conflict. He deployed the Turn X in an attempt to eliminate Dianna, but his plan was intercepted by Joseph Yaht, who was piloting the ∀. A battle ensued between the two mobile suits, during which Gym killed Sweatson Stero for interfering. The Royal Guard then intervened and attempted to restrain the Turn X. However, Gym activated the Turn X’s Moonlight Butterfly to break through the Royal Guard and proceeded to defeat the SUMO units. After reattaching the original cockpit to the ∀, Loran engaged Gym in the ∀. During their final battle at Lost Mountain, both Turn-types unleashed their Moonlight Butterflies and fought until they heavily damaged each other in close combat. Both Loran and Gym escaped unharmed and subsequently faced-off in a brief sword duel. Gym was engulfed by the nanomachines, as the Moonlight Butterflies from both Turn-types were unable to destroy each other. At the end of the battle, both Turn-types were enveloped in a nanomachine cocoon, sealing the menaces of Dark History once again.
