Technology & Combat Characteristics
Developed from the GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh, the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam is usually hidden on the GN-008 Seravee Gundam as a backpack unit. Seraphim detaches from Seravee's back and changes from its Backpack Form to its MS Form only when necessary, and this can be done even when battling. Like Nadleeh, Seraphim is equipped with the "Trial System" as its main feature. This system deploys an invisible field around the mobile suit, enabling Seraphim's pilot Tieria Erde to take control of machines within the field that are linked with the quantum processing system Veda. However, the system still requires its user to be linked with Veda. Unlike Nadleeh which was intended to be used only in an emergency, Seraphim was developed with regular combat in mind. Although Seraphim is more powerful than Nadleeh, its combat capabilities were still deemed inferior to its fellow Gundams in AD 2312.
Since Seraphim normally functions as Seravee's backpack, it is slightly smaller and slimmer than its fellow new Gundams deployed in AD 2312. Seraphim's head is also smaller than its fellow Gundams to match its body size, and has a simple structure to facilitate its storage during Backpack Form. Seravee then turns into an unmanned attack unit remotely controlled by Tieria in Seraphim, and these two mobile suits can be used together to defeat a tough foe, like the GNZ-005 Garazzo. Like its fellow Gundams, Seraphim can activate Trans-Am System to enhance its thrust and defensive capabilities, as well as triple its output for a limited time.
A more powerful version of Seraphim, the GN-009GNHW/B Seraphim Gundam GNHW/B, could be created by using some of the upgrade parts from the GN-008GNHW/B Seravee Gundam GNHW/B. There was also a plan to expand the Trial System's range using the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G, which is equipped with the Seraphim and two unmanned Seraphim units called GN-00902 SEMs. However, this plan was dropped due to various issues.
