Technology & Combat Characteristics
The RGM-89D Jegan D Type is an improved version of the RGM-89 Jegan and uses similar weaponry. It features upgrades in performance and is designed to mount additional equipment on its body, with mount latches present on the shoulder armor and front of the waist. Typically, teams of these Jegans would work in concert with more advanced Federation mobile suits such as the RGM-89S Stark Jegan, the RGZ-95 ReZEL, and the RGZ-95C ReZEL Commander Type.
History
Several years after the introduction of the RGM-89 Jegan, its design was overhauled and given a package of basic upgrades to bring its technology up-to-date and relevant when compared to the newer high-performance machines being issued to special forces such as the RGZ-95 ReZEL. This upgraded model, known as the RGM-89D Jegan D Type. The early deployment type of Jegan D Type sported in red and white color scheme, akin to those used by the RGM-79 GM during the One Year War era, in U.C. 0096, the color scheme was switched to similar colors like the standard Jegan.
U.C. 0094 is the earliest record Jegan Type D rolled out by the Earth Federation Forces, these Jegan is assigned to two Clop Class Cruiser the "Unkai" and "Ra Dels" to protect the "important cargo" carried inside the Unkai. Unknown to the crewman of Ra Dels and Unkai the Jegan OS have been sabotaged in order to prevent any intrusion during the cargo transfer arranged by Anaheim Electronics and the Sleeves. This action was foiled by Carlos Craig, a rogue agent from the Federation's Central Intelligence Agency to prevented the Jegan being grounded.
The Jegan squadron then immediately deployed to intercept the incoming Sleeves forces consisted of older MS model, and the Jegan manage to defeat them with ease until one of a Sleeves agent manage infiltrate the Unkai and stole the important cargo which was revealed to be MSN-06S Sinanju Stein. The sudden appearance of Sinanju Stein caught the Jegan squadron off guard and the one by one they were outmaneuvered and destroyed. Almost all of the Jegan D Type were destroyed by the Sinanju Stein, and Carlos's unit is the last one to fight the Sinanju soon his unit was destroyed. The aftermath of this incident is covered up by the EFF, but among the soldiers this becomes the rumours of Return of the Red Comet that manage to sink 2 Clop Class Cruiser singlehandedly.
A customized Jegan D Type is assigned to Earth Federation Force's aggressor corps known as the "Raven Corps" based on New Guinea. This unit was piloted by Piko Altidore as the leader of Raven Corps and serves as aggressor unit for Mariana Base forces while also becoming a rival to the pilot of MSN-001X(G) Land Combat Type Gundam Delta Kai. This customized Jegan also played a crucial part uncovering a conspiracy surrounding the N.I.T.R.O project and engaged both the local EFF and Pirates alike. Later the Jegan served a crucial role to carry Raven Cops soldier to assault the "Devil's Nest" and backed up the Gundam Team that got surrounded by Titans Remnants present in the area.
In U.C. 0096, the Jegan series had became the mainstay mobile suit model for the Earth Federation Forces, replacing the aging RGM-86R GM III. During the beginning of the Laplace Incident, the Londo Bell's SCVA-76 Nahel Argama launched two Jegan D Types and a RGM-89S Stark Jegan to intercept the Sleeves' ship, Garencieres. However, the Garencieres deployed the NZ-666 Kshatriya and managed to destroy all three units. Later, the Nahel Argama sent more of its mobile suit teams, including several Jegan D Types, to Industrial 7 to capture the Sleeves agents and secure Laplace's Box, but this attempt failed as the Kshatriya intercepted and destroyed them inside the colony, causing major collateral damage.
Later, several Jegan D Types along with other MS were carried by a Colombus Class carrier as replenishment for Nahel Argama's depleted battle strength after repeated engagement against the Sleeves. These Jegan D Types were deployed to assault the mining asteroid Palau, engaging in an intense battle with the Sleeves forces, and later received assistance from the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam after it escaped from Sleeves' capture. During the last battle of the Laplace Incident, the Jegan D Types and other MS of the Nahel Argama worked together with the defected crew of the Garencieres and their MS, such as captured AMS-129 Geara Zulu (Guards Type)s, and they fought bravely against opposing forces, including the RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn and the Sleeves.
